This is a very dramatic speciment of the classic "Herkimer Diamond" quartz crystals from New York. This crystal is 11 x 10 x 7 cm! It looks like carved glass. However, few attain such size and perfection, and still remain on matrix. This is tough rock to mine (generally with hand tools at the legal dig sites), and few matrix pieces survive that process anyhow - let alone with big crystals and in good condition. So, this is a significant specimen, not just a large piece. The quartz is not repaired, and the piece is complete all around. From the Dr. Ed David collection (Ed was President Nixon's White House Science Advisor among his other roles in politics and science). Valued $2500-3000.
