Item Description
"Herkimer Diamonds," famous for their sharp, doubly-terminated form and amazing gemminess, are hard to come by on matrix. Most desirable is the style that we have here: clear, colorless Quartz on a matrix of smaller Quartz, with tiny inclusions of anthracite/graphite that add character and interest. The largest crystal is 1.4 cm, and the contrast between this Herkimer and the matrix is striking. Looking at this true gem, the faces are almost mirror-like and the internal cravings seem to swim around the inside of the crystal like a school of silvery fish. The reflections from these internal features, as scintillating as they are, also drive the sensor on the cameras crazy. Trust me when I say that this stellar miniature is an order of magnitude better in person. While not worth a fortune maybe, it is just a special gem of a crystal. From our special collection sale, direct to auction, of choice material from the collection of Richard Rossi, East Coast collector and Mineralogical Record Fellow.
