Quartz var. Herkimer Diamond

Item Description

This trio of Quartz crystals, or Herkimer Diamonds, are relatively large individuals from 3.5 to 4.5 cm in size that make up this cluster. These Quartzes are often termed "Herkimer Diamonds" due to their unusual clarity, almost equant shape and high luster. They are found in cavities in large, hard boulders at the Herkimer locality. This one is almost a complete floater with only one apparent contact on the bottom. All three are outwardly terminated and other ends of the crystals converge in the middle. It has some minor bitumen inclusions at the center of the cluster and the largest crystal has some planar inclusions that reflect light brilliantly. A few tiny dings at the terminations and some edgewear locally but otherwise in very good condition.
