From a recent, shocking find of new citrines a few years ago (around 2015), this is a significant example in the size range. Japan Law quartz twins are common enough around the world from a few locations - although not so common as normal quartz, of course. However, for some reason, they are almost always ONLY clear! Smoky Quartz twins occur in New Mexico and not anywhere else, reliably. Citrine - well, citrine Japan Law twins had never been found, to my knowledge, until this find. Most were brought out by the late Rock Currier, and only a few specimens had such sharp twinning and balance out of all the material he obtained from his African sources. They do seem to be the first known citrine japan-law twins. This one is lustrous and transparent with a lovely golden color. The Japan-law-twin of quartz exhibits the typical flattened habit as you see here, with a join angle of just under 90 degrees. Contacts at the terminations detract slightly from the overall quality and in some small way the value, but not from the display impact or interest of such a rare crystallized form of citrine. Thus, we have chosen to leave it natural instead of submitting to a lab for restoration at the edges. It is a rare, balanced twin in this size range. No more of quality have been found since a few years of production, at least not that we have seen here. Valued $4000-plus.
