A wonderful old specimen of the very rarely seen, and highly sought after "flowing" Chalcedony specimens from Cornwall. I've seen a handful of these elusive Cornish Chalcedony specimens over the years from various localities, and from what I gather, they were mined in the 1800s. This specimen has an unusual pseudo-stalactitic growth with a gentle "lace"-like form of cryptocrystalline Chalcedony that almost resembles melted candle wax of a gentle golden color. These are RARE on the market, and a must have for any Cornish collector. The piece comes from Brian Lloyd of London, one of the preeminent European mineral dealers. Among other accomplishments, Brian was responsible for bringing the Sir Robert Ferguson collection to market, along with the Joseph Neeld collection (1789-1856) in 1974 and the historic gold collection of H.S. Gordon. Brian famously purchased the historic dealership formerly known as J.R. Gregory & Company - today known as Gregory, Bottley & Lloyd. The catalogue number on this specimen is 652.
