Item Description

This is a notably hard to find specimen of Chalcedony (defined as a microcrystalline variety of Quartz see https://www.mindat.org/min-960.html for more info) from the Apache Creek Road locality in New Mexico. Not only is this the only piece we've had to offer from the locality, we couldn't find another in any database for comparison. If you collect Quartz or minerals of New Mexico, this is something that would make a fine addition to your collection. This full cabinet sized piece hosts attractive, light silvery to beige colored botryoidal Chalcedony aggregates, sitting on volcanic rock matrix. Most of the Chalcedon "balls" are undamaged, and the only major roughness is around the periphery where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. The piece shows a very faint greenish-yellow fluorescence under LW UV light, but it was almost impossible to show in a photo/video. A really cool display specimen from an obscure locality. You're not likely to see another one of these on the market, so don't miss out, as we don't have another to offer.
From the collection of Dave Stoudt, with a couple unattributed former collection labels. Dave's label states that the piece was collected in the 1970s by Vince Shaffer.
