Item Description

Surreal sculptural large double chalcedony geode with an unusual rind from New Mexico. Pastel-pink banding dramatically frames the fantastically different shaped geodes lined with ropy and botryoidal powder-blue and bone-white chalcedony. Banded chalcedony geodes were once fairly common from this less well-known New Mexico locale in the mid 1990's. Very little has been found at this location for quite some time. Ex Al Kidwell Collection. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. Stunning lime-green SW UV fluorescence. An outstanding and very artistic example from the locale.
