Item Description
Chalcedony, a variety of microscopic fibrous Quartz, is found infrequently across the wide reaches of Inner Mongolia. Occasionally seen as a pseudomorph, it is most likely to occur in a botryoidal form, as we have in the fine, large-cabinet specimen from the unusual locality in Northern China, in Alxa League. Simplified layering (banding) atop the matrix is visible along the edges and it has a surprising, white fluorescence. This underlying layer grades into an attractive, grayish-lavender Chalcedony with good, satiny luster. The growth of the Chalcedony culminates in a single, 4.4 cm stalactite that rises above the rolling landscape of the surface. Both appealing and weighty, you don't often see a Chalcedony like this from Inner Mongolia. From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl, a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces.
