Item Description
This piece is from a 2017 discovery in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region in Morocco. This area borders the region of Guelmim-Oued Noun to the north and Dakhla-Oued Ed-Dahab to the south. With that said, we purchased these pieces labeled as being found at Smara, which is the second largest town in the region, so the locality might not actually be at Smara, but the specimens could have been acquired / sold there. If you're a fan of Quartz and its many varieties, this is something fairly new and notably interesting to add to your collection. I can't say I've seen Chalcedony specimens that look like this from anywhere else in the world. This toenail sized specimen appears to have grown in multiple generations with a soft creamy golden-white flowing deposition of Chalcedony towards the center which are overgrown by beautiful golden brown semi-botryoidal groups of Chalcedony on the outer layer. When it's backlit, the piece shows wonderful internal colors.
