Item Description

These South African Amethysts are instantly recognizable and are absolutely unique for their beauty and strange form. Many call these "cactus quartz" as a trade name and because they are sceptered, with glowing gemmy tips and their side faces are wrapped around with overgrowths of a second generation of small crystals, resembling a spiky cactus, causing the whole sides of the crystals to sparkle! This large plate is no exception with over two dozen, medium purple colored Amethyst Quartz crystals from 1 to 5 cm in length with all of their prism faces completely covered in a second generation of coarse drusy medium purple Amethyst crystals for stunning effect. Note that three of the points have very minor tip restoration, done by a professional lab. It is invisible, except under UV light. It's just a beautiful example of this Amethyst varietal from South Africa! Old material, from the early 2000s, now 20 years out of the ground. This gorgeous style has never been seen since. This is a large plate, in excellent condition, from a private quartz collection sold off during COVID years!
