Quartz var: Amethyst with Quartz ''casts'' after Calcite (classic locality)

A great old piece of the famous Amethysts from Idar-Oberstein, a highly important historic Agate processing district in Germany dating back to the mid-1500s, but now best known for its world-class gem carving artists. The famous specimens from this locality can only be found in old collections now, and look just like the lithographs in book from hundreds of years ago. This dual-open-ended geode is filled with sharp lustrous, gemmy, beautiful purple colored hexagonal crystals of Quartz, associated with hollow "casts" (epimorphs/perimorphs) of sugary grey Quartz replacing Calcite. We rarely get these pieces to offer, and this is a showy and good quality example of this classic material.
