First-rate Quartz with Hematite specimen that wonderfully exemplifies one of the signature combinations from the storied Orange River area, from its heyday in the late 1990s and very early 2000s. In this exemplary cabinet piece, the Hematite is completely included, forming deep-red phantoms just below the glassy faces of the crystals. Beautiful! The Quartz ranges up to 4.5 cm, and there is a small amount of not-unexpected wear. The piece displays very well, and backlighting it produces an amazing vista that you simply do not suspect, and is much much better in person. Add a UV light, and lo and behold, Hyalite Opal. I find this small-cabinet piece to be compelling, with the aesthetics of this instantly-recognizable piece from Orange River (whose production is primarily from South Africa) being excellent. This fine, large cabinet piece is rare because it has 360 degree spread of crystals on MATRIX! We almost never saw this in such fine preservation. This specimen went from Charlie Key (he had a prized Namibia quartz collection) to Marshall and Charlotte Sussman, to Star van Scriver; who sold the whole Sussman Orange River collection to Erika Pohl. A fine provenance!
