Item Description
Amethyst from Artigas in Uruguay is world famous for the intense color of the crystals, and this is a classic example of these famous, grape juice-colored purple crystals. It is unusual and pretty for the interesting translucent calcite crystals sprinkled upon it. The piece is a 3-dimensional knob that was at one time, the top of three intergrown stalactites (you can see the patterning on the bottom to show this). It is complete all around the top knob, which is nice. It is nearly pristine, except for a few minor dings, and has a contact on the back that is out of sight. It sits nicely flat for display. This specimen is recently deaccessioned from the important Quartz suite of the Gene Meieran Collection.
