Quartz var. Amethyst with Calcite ex Meieran

Item Description

A sparkling specimen of amethyst with glassy points, complete all around, is the host for dozens of calcite crystals perched delicately on top. This is a classic "knob" out of the inside of an amethyst geode from the productive volcanic deposits in Uruguay that have produced some of the world's most beautiful amethyst. While the material is certainly common in some form or another, this is an unusual specimen because of the balance, the twist of the amethyst growth (see video), and the overall composition, and was long a part of the quartz suite of hundreds of specimens, in the Gene Meieran collection.
