Item Description

Artigas in Uruguay is world famous for Amethyst crystals that have an intense color saturation. This is a classic example of these famous, grape juice-colored purple crystals. The specimen is unusual and interesting for the contrasting translucent Calcite crystals sprinkled upon it. The piece is a 3-dimensional knob that was at one time, the top of three intergrown stalactites (you can see the patterning on the bottom to show this). It is complete all around the top knob, which is nice. It is nearly pristine, except for a few minor dings, and has a contact on the back that is out of sight. It sits nicely flat for display. This specimen was recently deaccessioned from the important Quartz suite of the Gene Meieran Collection.
