Item Description
Amethyst from the high alpine mountains of Switzerland is both a geological rarity and a coveted item of collectors, with few good specimens leaving Switzerland to go to other collectors. This is a significant specimen for the size and visual impact, reputed to be from a classic find of the 1970s or a small later find in 2002. Highlighted by a 13 cm long crystal, this amethyst specimen is lustrous and translucent, with purple sections. A rare color from the alpine veins of the Alps, where amethyst is somehow very rarely seen amidst so much clear and smoky quartz. This is a large piece, at 980 grams and nearly a kilo therefore. It is difficult to convey the subtleties of color and shape, but we can say that it is about as impactful a large Swiss amethyst as most people will ever see.
