Quartz var. Amethyst (rare locale)

Item Description

This is a truly gorgeous amethyst specimen with vibrant grape-jelly color and a special crystal style that features subtle surface features which throw off and reflect light from what seem to be too many faces, extra reflections that make this sparkle. It is an older specimen in the collection and we found no old dealer labels with it, but Jack labeled the bottom as "Michoacan, Mexico" in his hand. However, in the age of MINDAT and internet, we believe it is more correctly attriuted to the classic Guanajuato locality that has produced other similar pieces, although this would be a very good one. The large crystals are to 3 cm. no damage. We are truly honored to present this specimen from another lot of deaccessions from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005.
