Jacksons Crossroads is world famous for some of the most eye-catching amethyst specimens, the best of which hold their own against amethyst from many other famous localities. Some people consider the best with color on matrix of Jackson's to be the best amethysts, for specimen collectors. This example is a showy matrix specimen featuring a handful of very sharp, highly lustrous and INCREDIBLY TRANSPARENT amethyst crystals , measuring up to 3.7 cm long sitting atop a natural pedestal of colorless quartz points. The number of pockets with exceptional amethyst quality, that occur not just on gray rock or clustered only with amethyst but on contrasting white quartz, is countable on one hand - in the last 20 years of mining here. Put that in perspective : out of thousands of specimens found, and hundreds of good specimens, a relative few dozen are purple on white. And that contrast, my friends, is what makes the best of the best of Jackson's, truly special. Beyond that, this is perfectly balanced for the size, and aesthetic. The crystals are not merely gemmy or translucent, they are quite literally GEMS, see-through transparent. This is a gorgeous specimen, and in in a thousand. Matrix Jackson's amethysts are so few and far between, and often priced higher simply due to the extreme difficulty of mining here (it is literally a needle in a haystack, with no reliable veins to follow!). Some summer seasons yield only one pocket, for 3 months of work. Valued $4500. When you see it on a shelf, you realize why these are so special...This specimen has a custom-made base that accompanies the piece.
