Quartz var. Amethyst on Calcite in geode

Item Description

We don't see quartz crystals in geodes from Bolivia often, but this is a great one! Lustrous, medium purple Amethyst crystals from 3 mm to 2.6 cm in length, some of them doubly terminated are scattered at the interior lined with a plethora of translucent, off-white, tightly intergrown Calcite crystals that glow a light red in short wave UV light. All of the Amethyst crystals are gemmy and sharply formed and their light purple color contrasts well with the light colored Calcite. This piece is really more of a amygdule in an andesite that is obvious on the exterior with its interesting and speckled texture. A really cool piece from an old discovery, not on the market today!
