Quartz var. Amethyst (Ireland!)

Anything mineralized is rare enough from Ireland, but this is a gorgeous plate of amethyst and of display size ! This is an attractive plate of highly lustrous, short Amethyst crystals, up to 2 cm across, from Keem. Preferential purple coloration can be seen within the crystals, and these Amethysts are exceptionally clean and iron-free for the locality, with just small hints of iron oxide that add flashes of red color and character. There is only a tiny bit of wear on some of the crystals, so the condition is remarkable. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection.
