Item Description
A big impressive display specimen of these beautiful Amethyst "flowers" from Ametista do Sul. The piece is not just a single radial "flower", but rather an multi-group comprising dozens of sharp, lustrous, well-formed translucent hexagonal prisms which range from a light purple hues to nearly white/colorless. The piece is crystallized on all sides, with crystals flaring in many directions, giving the piece an added three-dimensional depth that is often lacking from these specimens, as they can often be quite flat. Most of the time, these "flower" are actually lifted from matrix, but this piece has enough sculptural form that is can sit on its own. As mentioned, there are dozens of tightly intergrown crystals here, the largest measuring 3.2 cm, with very well-formed terminations upon close inspection. These are some of the most unique and iconic Amethyst specimens in the world, and every good Quartz collection needs one, no to mention every Brazilian suite or just general worldwide minerals. Valued at $1,500.
From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds. Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California. The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
