Item Description
This is one of those special specimens that stands at the line between quartz and amethyst, with a lovely pastel purple color often called amethystine. It has come from a special pocket, some years ago, that had the single best glassy luster you could imagine (and the luster is natural, not enhanced in any way). It is impossible to describe in a photo and perhaps even in a video, but I guarantee this will be the glassiest quartz specimen in most collections. The cluster is razor-sharp, nicely balanced in a spray, and complete all around with no damage. When we say razor-sharp, we mean it - you could cut a fingertip on these crystals. From the Meieran collection: Gene Meieran once had over a hundred quartz specimens and has already winnowed down the quartz suite down to things he truly loved and did not want to part with until it all went, and this has remained until the end (he is keeping only some large quartz crystals for the single crystals suite, and a display of textbook crystal shapes). He does not have a bigger or a better of this style (nor do we) - and, it is not a "second" to anything remaining in the smaller quartz suite of the collection. Compared to bigger fancier things, it is one of my favorites. In person, it is just so beautiful, for a combination of its unique qualities that is hard to convey in video. The color is beautiful - not what we normally call amethyst, though. It looks more like blown glass, it is so vibrant and fun to look at. Las Vigas amethysts are common, let's admit it. This is simply an outlier, and would be phenomenal from ANY location, but is particularly noteworthy for here. Valued $7500-10,000.
