Nice, representative Amethyst specimen from the classic locality of Banska Stiavnica (formely Schemnitz, Hungary), world famous for amethysts before the flood of the purple crystals came from Brazil! Interestingly, the Amethyst crystals completely cover the flattened knob of matrix that they grow on, even what was the contact point, and there is a rosette of Quartz crystals sitting right in the middle, as if designed that way. The largest of these Amethyst crystals is 1.6 cm, and there is even a second generation of tiny, mm-size, gemmy Quartzes that add to the interest and aesthetics.
