Item Description

We often may think of Thunder Bay amethysts as being generally second fiddle to Brazilian and other localities, with a rusty red tinge to them. However, the best Canadian amethyst shave stunning and wonderful purple grape-juice color that rival the colro from any other locality - they are just so much more rare, and hard to obtain. This is a perfect, 3-dimensional knob of crystals radiating out, of excellent quality. Jack bought this from the tourist store owned by Canadian dealer Mike Ridding back when Mike (now retired in the USA after oving the store to Santa Barbara long ago) had a store in Banff, Canada. We are truly honored to present this specimen from another lot of deaccessions from the collection of Jack Halpern of San Francisco, as featured in the Mineralogical Record, March 2005. It is a really beautiful amethyst from a nontypical locality for such color!
