Quartz var: Amethyst ''cast'' after Calcite

Here we have a lovely "cast" featuring sharp, lustrous, rich purple colored hexagonal Amethyst crystals that have replaced a preexisting crystal of Calcite. When you flip the piece over, you can see the defined hexagonal form of the former Calcite which was coated by Amethyst, and eventually dissolved away, leaving the impression of its original crystal faces against the back of the Amethyst crystals. These are not terribly common, but they are well-known for Artigas. You don't see them nearly as much from places like Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. I love the strong, almost Siberian color of the Amethyst crystals on the piece, a signature hue for Artigas.
