Item Description

Referred to affectionately as "Cactus Quartz", this fine, large-cabinet piece is from the Boekenhoutshoek area in Africa. The Amethyst scepters, up to 3.5 cm, are a lightly-shaded purple, but what really stands out on this piece, as in related specimens, are the fields of Quartz crystals that girdle the larger crystals. These second-generation Amethysts add volumes of sparkle and beauty with their good luster and razor-sharp form. All the Quartzes contain Amethyst phantoms, and these are darker and particularly sharp in the gemmy terminations of the scepters. Iron oxides add color and contrast to this already aesthetic piece, which displays nicely from various angles. Erroneously marketed as being from the Magaliesberg Range, these Boekenhoutshoek pieces are instantly recognizable with their distinct and exotic form.
