Quartz var: Amethyst and Smoky (with a scepter crystal)

Item Description

A fine quality, big showy display piece of the elusive Quartz specimens from Crystal Ridge in the Inyo Mts of California.  This cabinet specimens is filled with many fine, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, lovely purple colored Amethyst crystals which can be seen growing on top of  Smoky Quartz, sitting on host rock matrix.  If you turn the piece around you can see that one of the crystals has formed a wonderful scepter habit, with a dark Smoky Quartz "stem" measuring 2.3 cm.  Despite some minor nicks, the piece is in very good condition, and the Amethyst crystals are eye-catching with beautiful color and gemminess when backlit.   If you collect minerals of California, Quartz specimens or unusual/rare locality pieces, don't miss out on this interesting and eye-catching display specimen from this obscure locale.   

From the collection of Robert (Bob) Reynolds who passed in August of 2020.  Bob was a well-known fossil and mineral expert and former Curator of Earth Sciences at the San Bernardino County Museum in California.  The rare phyllomanganate-chromate species Reynoldsite was named in his honor in 2011.
