Quartz var. Amethyst and Smoky (scepter)

Item Description

This is a superb, very unique aesthetic triple Quartz scepter specimen with Quartz at the top, Smoky Quartz in the middle and Amethyst at the stalk. It looks like the ultimate magic wand! The 6.5 cm stalk is entirely rich purple Amethyst with a cloudy area at the very bottom transitioning to a grape-purple section in the middle grading into a lighter purple area with abundant inclusions. The scepter overgrowth measures 6 cm long and 4 cm wide and is dominantly glassy, clear Quartz with abundant inclusions at the core with a more transparent thick water-clear rim. The zone between the scepter and the stalk characterized by a perceptibly dark smoky area at the base of the scepter that also has an attached, doubly terminated, 3 cm sidecar. The piece has a nearly perfect termination (we find one possible edge damage - but it could be natural growth as well). This dramatic piece is very glassy and has high transparency. The three Quartz varieties, shading variations and the aesthetic, not to mention dramatic look of the piece are highly noteworthy! It was a major specimen in the Charlie Key Brandberg Quartz collection, which then sold to Marshall and Charlotte Sussman. They sold the extras and kept a core collection of about 40 crystals from Charlie's collection for some years, including many of the best single points ever found to that time. This was one of them. Erika Pohl later purchased the collection through Star Van Scriver, and this is one of those specimens (I remember it from seeing it in the Sussman house, as well!). At the time, this was valued at $20,000.
