Quartz var: Amethyst and Smoky (doubly-terminated scepter) on matrix

The Andilamena Quartz Quarries in Madagascar have produced some beautiful Quartz specimens, showing varied colors, habits and styles. MOST of the pieces from this locality are loose crystals, off matrix, so not only is this piece is a rare matrix specimen, but it has a lot more going on. This piece hosts a gorgeous, sharp, lustrous, gemmy, multi-colored (Amethyst, Smoky and colorless) doubly-terminated crystal group with skeletal faces (sometimes called "Fenster" habit) and pronounced scepter habit growth, aesthetically flaring off matrix. While the upper portion of the crystal hosts a pronounced and eye-catching scepter habit, there is still additional overgrowth on the base of the crystal, showing multi-generational deposition. The piece is in superb condition, as I cannot find any major damage, only trivial imperfections. This is certainly one of the best and most alluring examples of this now hard to find material that we've had to offer in the auctions. From the collection of Tim Sherburn, valued $950.
