Item Description

Amatitlan Amethyst specimens from the late 1970s to mid-1980s are Mexican classics, and are far less common than those from Las Vigas (Piedra Parada). This sculptural, small cabinet specimen is composed of lustrous and gemmy Amethysts with richly colored and sharp purple phantoms. The crystals average about 4 cm in size, but reach up to 4.8 cm. For Guerrero, the 360-degree nature of the cluster is unusual and attractive, but that also creates more exposure, and thus a few of the crystals are consequently partials. Nonetheless, this is a balanced and very aesthetic specimen from a famous locality. Reference The Guerrero Amethyst Deposits, Mexico, The Mineralogical Record, 35(6), 29-37. A superb specimen with unusually good aesthetics and color, valued $3500-4500. ex George Elling Collection.
