Referred to affectionately as "Cactus Quartz", this small-cabinet piece is from the Boekenhoutshoek area in Africa. The Amethyst scepters, up to an impressive 6.2 cm, are a lightly-shaded purple, but what really stands out on this piece, as in related specimens, are the fields of Quartz crystals that girdle the larger crystals. These second-generation Amethysts, tinted with Amethyst and iron oxides, add volumes of sparkle and beauty with their good luster and razor-sharp form. Erroneously marketed as being from the Magaliesberg Range, these Boekenhoutshoek pieces are instantly recognizable with their distinct and exotic form.
