Gemmy rich purple Amethyst from Amatitlan, Guerrero are arguably the best Amethyst from Mexico and some of the best in the world. The strong grape jelly color, as in this specimen, is the obvious reason why! This gorgeous small cabinet specimen has a pleasing display of sharp, well formed prismatic crystals characterized by lustrous, juicy, grape purple colored Amethyst crystals that transitions to transparent water clear Quartz at the terminations. The middle grouping of the crossing crystals is a lovely center point to the display with the front center crystal measuring 5.2 cm. The Amethyst terminations exhibit a wonderful variety of crystal habits including normal or prismatic, hexagonal, and dauphiné habits. All indicating different individual termination growth rates. Just fascinating! The crystal terminations are in great shape overall with only one dinged termination and a small broken crystal. The back view shows some contacting and the piece does have a sawn base to allow it to be displayed without the aid of a base or clay. The aesthetic form with crystals rising up in different directions and the beautiful gemmy purple color make this striking specimen simply a jewel! Valued $1500-plus.
