This Amethyst is an intensely colored example from the classic finds here over 20 years ago from a remote area of South Africa, from the early 2000s. It is a gorgeous small cabinet piece showing Amethyst in complex, multiple generations of growth called "cactus quartz" by the locals and those in the quartz trade at the time. There were literally thousands of these on the market for a while, but even then, this kind of combination of color, sparkle, and aesthetics would have put a piece like this a higher quality level for the size. The cluster consists of nearly a dozen stout to prismatic, Amethyst Quartz points with the largest crystal measuring three and a half inches long. All of the Amethyst points are transparent to translucent, perfectly intact and display a dark purple, phantom-like internal edges. Not only is the large crystal impressive, it is doubly terminated and doubly sceptered with the slightly recessed, long prism faces completely covered in scintillating, red-purple, stubby crystals! The piece has has remarkable composition, balance, deep color and is complete. 360 degrees around, complete. Again, although there were many, the qualities of this set it apart then, as they do today still. The color is beautiful - amethyst, but with a hint of maroon.
