Amethyst from Las Vigas has come out in quantity of a variety of different styles over the years, from this extremely remote mountainous terrain in Mexico. There are bigger or smaller crystals, with more or less color, etc etc...innumerable styles. This style, however, is to me the classic I like best, sharp and splaying crystals with a gradient of color from grape juice purple tips, through a clear zone, to a starkly contrasting milky quartz base. To me, these have a lot more contrast to the eye than many other styles, some darker or lighter. This fine specimen is an elegant small cabinet piece, from the collections of Frank Imbriacco and Gabriel Risse. It has crystals to 3.5 cm. As both are sticklers for quality and condition, it has no damage at all - and this is somewhat unusual in a small cabinet sized specimen from here. It is very carefully selected. We presume this is from older finds.
