Item Description
To the best of my knowledge, the only reported locality for "Youngite" is Guernsey, Wyoming. I've only seen a handful of these specimens over the years, and if you're a fan of Quartz or fluorescent minerals, this is a must have for your collection. The material is defined as a variety of Agate, and is famous for its beautiful sparkling / drusy botryoidal forms, soft lilac color and the fact that it glows an intense electric green hue under SW UV light. A lot of these specimens are polished into cabochons for jewelry, and it's not easy to get your hands on good quality display specimen. Most of the "Youngite" specimen I've seen are often jumbled, badly damaged or simply not that attractive but THIS specimen is not only highly presentable, but it's also a big full-sized cabinet and looks great from both the front and back. It has a full coverage of crystals on both sides of the piece, and displays wonderfully as you can see from the photos. The front side of the specimen has an excellent three-dimensional face with a beautiful group of "balls" that are sitting above the rest of the underlying plate. No major damage anywhere, the only contacts are on the edge where the piece was removed from the pocket wall. I feel confident that this is the best piece of "Youngite" that we've had to offer in the auctions. Valued at $950 for size, quality, displayability and the fact that you don't see them on the market very often at all. From the worldwide collection of David Burgess (1951-2016). David was a prolific species collector from Newington, Connecticut, and the namesake for the extremely rare cobalt arsenate species Burgessite, which he discovered.
