Item Description
Tucked among the scenic and attractive Ayrshire countryside in southern Scotland are agate-bearing basaltic and andesitic rocks. This complete half-nodule is an excellent example of the agates produced there, with the various shades of red and white creating well-defined, contrasting bands. Many have been collected over the years, particularly in the 1970's and 80's, with nodules found both on land and on the coast. Recently deaccessed from the Tim Sherburn collection. Tim specialized in trading, collecting, and buying Scottish minerals and travelled there himself for acquisition.
