Quartz var. Agate polished slice (old style)

Item Description

The core of this artistic, mesmerizing banded black and white polished agate slice resembles the white, elongated head of an animal with a slanted black eye and an ear. The head is also partially framed by contrasting brown agate. It is looking at a small teardrop form - another animal or what?? The striking black and white banding surrounding the head, the thin outer banding of black, white and brown plus the unusual openings at either end, where the precipitating silica-rich fluids flowed add a remarkable attractiveness to this fine slab. Felt has been attached at the back of the slab to be used as a very fanciful, decorative object. Old material from the Jack Halpern Collection No. 1686 and obtained in 1976 from Gustav Risch of famed Idar Oberstein of Germany, a renowned lapidary arts center.
