Item Description

An impressive and RARE large combination plate from the well-known Huaron mining district. The sculptural plate is dramatically studded with typical for the locale lightly frosted transparent quartz points, to about 3.5 cm. RARE sparkly metallic gray Tennantite microcrystals coat or partially coat brilliant golden metallic Chalcopryite sphenoids, to 2.0 cm. Another outstanding accessory are the scattered clusters or isolated cubes of lustrous, brassy pyrite crystals, to 1.2 cm. Sphalerite covers most of the basal attachment. Ex Al Kidwell Collection. Al was a well-known mineral collector and research geologist with Carter Oil Company and later Exxon Oil Company in Houston, Texas. The phosphate species Kidwellite was named in his honor in 1974. An exceptional, showy, rare and rich large combination from the locale.
