Item Description

The Little Giant Basin in San Juan County, Colorado has produced some very attractive Quartz specimens, including fine skeletal and scepter Amethyst specimens. Most of the specimens shows a slight amount of skeletal windowing or "Fenster" as it is called in German. This piece is an excellent, gemmy, sharp, very lustrous, slightly sceptered crystal that is complete on all sides, and shows fantastic "hoppered" / "fenster" habit faces on the termination. For the most part, the color is white / colorless, but you can see very slight Amethystine and Smoky tones here and there. The piece is nearly undamaged, save the bottom where it detached from the pocket. This particular piece was collected by San Juan collector, Mark Mahlum in the summer of 2008, and is a great example of the type of specimens that can be found in the Little Giant Basin.
