Quartz scepter

Item Description

Quartz scepters are RARE from the well-known pegmatites of the Diamantina area. The locality produces very fine quartz specimens, but rarely scepters. The striking very glassy and lustrous gemmy hexagonal crystal has numerous highlights, that make this a unique large quartz scepter: steep off-set modified termination; all of the termination faces and three of the six prism faces have interesting pock-marked, etched surfaces; the other three prism faces are mostly glass-clear; all of the prism faces have subtle stepped-growth; the minimal interior veils add character; and finally the unusual etched base of the scepter above the sharp, tapered 4.9 cm stalk. Complete all-around and essentially pristine, with only the most trivial, barely noticeable, termination edge wear. A fascinating and rare large sceptered quartz from Diamantina. Older material from the Michel Jactat Collection, sold to finance further mining in Brazil.
