Item Description

The Camp Bird Mine above Ouray, Colorado is one of the most classic of all the Colorado ore body localities. It is renowned for its wonderful sulfide specimens, i.e., Chalcopyrite, Sphalerite and Galena, and has also produced some attractive Calcites and Quartz specimens. This piece features beautiful "casts" / replacements of gemmy to milky white Quartz crystals replacing scalenohedral Calcite. The piece is in great shape and displays well from several angles. This specimen was collected by well known San Juan mining personalities, Tom Rosemeyer (the caretaker of the Camp Bird Mine) and dealer Robert Stoufer in the 1990s. These specimens are becoming impossible to obtain these days.
