Item Description

A rarely seen specimen of Quartz pseudomorphing trapezohedral crystals of Garnet from the famous Topaz Mountain locality in the Thomas Range of Utah. The largest individual Garnet pseudomorph measures about 4 mm across. The color is a dark grey hue, which presumably might be due to minor Hematite content. There is also a small colorless gemmy crystal of an unknown species on the edge of the piece, which I think could be simply Quartz, but it's hard to say for sure. Ex Kay Robertson Collection (#9226). Kay was a prominent California collector, who specialized in European classics. She nearly lived 100 years from April 1920 - March 2020. See the article in the March-April, 2007 Mineralogical Record ( https://www.mineralogicalrecord.com/pdfs/Kay%20Robertson%20Collection.pdf ), and the 50+ page article in the German Magazine "Mineralien Welt" November-December 2017.
