Item Description
This is a beautiful Quartz specimen from the famous K.D. Pocket (mined in the 1990s) featuring a pair of sharp, lustrous, prismatic white / colorless Quartz crystals measuring up to 8.4 cm long aesthetically flaring off a matrix of quartz and host rock. This three-dimensional display piece creates a very striking presentation. Virtually damage free and very eye-catching. The crystals show a rarely seen (for Colorado) tapered habit, similar to a Tessin / Ticino habit or possibly the Muzo habit, but still slightly different. If you like crystal morphology, or if you're a fan of habits of Quartz crystals, or just showy display pieces, do not pass this one up. Additionally, if you're a Colorado collector, or a Quartz collector, this is a great opportunity to add an attractive display piece from an uncommon locality in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado to your collection. Valued at $950. From the collection of Colorado mining legend, Dave Bergman who acquired the piece from his son-in-law Richard Kosnar, whose hand-written label accompanies the specimen. Dave is now retired, but among other things, he was the foreman and primary person in charge of recovering specimens at the famous Sweet Home Mine near Alma, Colorado during the late 1970s. He is also the maternal grandfather of Brian Kosnar. See Dave's photo mining at the Sweet Home on page 58 of Peter Bancroft's book "Gem and Crystal Treasures".
