Item Description

A RARE and dramatic large quartz plate from this deep gold mine. Very glassy, transparent to translucent quartz points in striking jackstraw fashion comprise this striking piece. The impressive large crystal is 7.4 cm and is doubly terminated. The scattered hematite staining imparts great character and color! In great shape overall, for such crystal density. The few hard-to-see interior broken crystals are concentrated near the inside termination of the large DT crystal and opposite of the hematite-stained crystals. The scattered periphery wear has no impact to the super quality of this extraordinary piece. Quote from Bob Trimingham's label: "South African gold mines seldom produce free standing crystals of anything because of the great lithostatic pressure collapsing vugs or cavities." From the 2400 meter level or 7848' deep! An outstanding large rarity! Value?
