Item Description

A very hard to find pseudomorph from the Himmelreich Mine, featuring "stubby", pyramidal, sharp, lustrous, colorless Quartz crystals which have replaced blades of Baryte, on minor matrix. The largest blade measures about 3.5 cm across. We've never had one of these specific pseudomorphs to offer in the auctions, and specimens in general are quite scarce on the market, we could only find a handful on various databases for reference. If you collect pseudomorphs or minerals of Germany, this is a very attractive specimen from a little-known locality that would make a fine addition to your collection. You can tell this is not a coating of Quartz over Baryte, and truly a pseudomorph as the original Baryte crystals are completely gone, and the piece doesn't quite have the same heft to it as compared to if the Baryte was still present.
From the collection of Kurt Hefendehl (#594 D), a well-known German collector all over Europe with worldwide contacts to dealers and collectors. He started collecting seriously at the age of 14 and his great and varied worldwide collection reached over 6000 pieces. He was very active mineralogically until shortly before his passing in 2020 at the age of 82. Considering his collection had a large number of pieces, it still had an unusually high standard of quality from most worldwide localities. He particularly specialized in all classics as well as minerals of the Black Forest, where he spent much time collecting. His Black Forest and German subcollections went to his good friend Wolfgang Wendel. We at The Arkenstone have the privilege of offering the remainder of this great worldwide collection through our various platforms.
