Quartz pseudomorph after Apophyllite (RARE locality specimen) (ex Dr. Wouter van Tichelen Collection)

Item Description

This is the first and only confirmed specimen that we've had to offer featuring Quartz pseudomorphs after Apophyllite from Antelope Flats near Challis, Idaho. This showy and eye-catching specimen features many excellent, blocky crystals of what was one Apophyllite, but was later replaced by white Quartz. The pseudomorphs still retain the tetragonal prismatic habit of the Apophyllite crystals. A couple of the crystals are actually contacted and reveal that they are at least partially hollow inside, making these "casts" as well. The largest individual crystal measures 3.3 cm long. Good quality overall, though not 100% perfect. Hard to photograph, and better in person. If you're a fan of pseudomorphs, Idaho minerals or just unusual / hard to find locality specimens, do NOT miss out on this attractive and virtually unseen specimen from central Idaho.
