Quartz ps. Calcite (cast)

Item Description

This very fine cast is from the Bacis Mine, an obscure Au-Ag-Sn locality in Durango, Mexico. The original Calcite has been replaced by grey-green, microcrystalline Quartz, with subsequent etching leaving the cast hollow. What is remarkable, and so very distinctive, is that the tiered growth of the Quartz that approriately makes it look like the great Mexican pyramids, is endemic to the growth of the Quartz and is not reflective of the original Calcite. That is unusual in every way, and surprising. But it also creates an even better aesthetic, and gives this pseudo even more presence.
