Item Description
Pockets of sharp, tabular Baryte crystals within a gossan/ironstone matrix have been replaced by white, sugary Quartz crystals. On top of the replacement, the original Baryte has dissolved away, leaving very well-defined, interesting casts. That largest of these hollow casts is about 1 cm, and on close examination the drusy Quartz adds to the interesting form, making these rather attractive. The contast between the Quartz and the matrix is stark, which allows the psuedomorphs to stand out nicely. Gravel Hill has been active since before 1728, and activity has varied since then. The sheer age simply adds to the historical nature, and interest, of the Cornwall area.
