Item Description

A VERY RARE and fascinating old-time small cabinet example of Los Angeles County urban geology. These were first described in 1936 as chalcedony pseudomorphs after fluorite crystals (MINDAT). Translucent honey-brown chalcedony has replaced two large artistically intergrown fluorite cubes on this very sculptural specimen. Formerly in the Kay Robertson Collection and acquired from Virgil Ketner, who collected these at a new construction site in about 1960, according to Kay's label. Later in the Bob Reynolds Collection, a well-known fossil and mineral expert and Curator of the San Bernardino County Museum. See: http://www.mindat.org/article.php/1772/ for more information. A MUST for the California, species or collector of urban specimens. VERY unusual, very beautiful!
