Item Description

A superb floater, pristine pseudomorph small cabinet from one of the most iconic quartz finds in the San Juan Mts and in the world. The OS (Oh Shit!) Pocket was discovered in 1992 on the south outskirts of Ouray. Multiple generations of quartz, from drusy to sharp quartz points with variable chemistry from front to back, have replaced and formed an exceptional sculptural epimorph of two intergrown anhydrite crystals. The color variations and crystals sizes from front to back are remarkable. The drusy quartz crystals on the front have a slight iron oxide tint. The large glassy, sharply terminated quartz points on the front reach 1.0 cm. These were originally marketed as being quartz after barite crystals. See extraLapis English No. 15, p.44 for Virgil Lueth's analysis that these are casts after anhydrite. An extraordinary San Juan pseudo from the Ken Roberts Pseudomorph Collection. Valued at $1000-1500. RARELY on the market, these are so desirable.
